In a tweet, Bukele confidently announced, “Our numbers indicate a resounding victory in the presidential election, with over 85% of the votes and a minimum of 58 out of 60 Assembly seats.”
During his initial term, Bukele gained recognition for his robust approach to combating gang violence and his bold embrace of Bitcoin (BTC). In 2021, El Salvador made history by becoming the world’s first nation to embrace the largest cryptocurrency as an official form of currency.
The country not only adopted Bitcoin but also introduced the Chivo crypto wallet, designed to facilitate widespread Bitcoin adoption. In an exciting development, the country is set to launch its eagerly anticipated “Volcano bonds,” backed by Bitcoin. With regulatory approval secured in December, these bonds will provide the necessary funds to establish a Bitcoin mining industry powered entirely by renewable energy.
